Last Wednesday, US president Donald Trump held a press conference at the White House before he departed on Marine One. Pablo Martinez Monsiváis, a photojournalist for the Associated Press, was in presence at the event. He snapped a photo, and the rest is history.
Monsiváis captured a pensive picture of the president’s eye in crisp detail, later sharing it on social media. In the zoomed-in photo, viewers can see Trump’s audience, members of the press, through his iris.
Depending on which camp people fall in, social media users have varied interpretations of the image. Most can agree, though, that the shot—which literally depicts the media through the lens of Donald Trump—is stunning, chilling and thought-provoking.
Agreed. It is “moment in time” culturally significant.
