The Vegan Vixen’s Guide To Beauty Products

Are you a green beauty geek doing the most to do the least amount of harm? We LOVE that. However, sometimes it can be annoying to sift through labels and ingredients in a store with lots of different items to find out which ones fit your ethics and lifestyle. Luckily, this Sugarhouse day spa has lots of options when it comes to luxury beauty for our vegan vixens. Just for you, we’ve created this handy guide to the very best products that are cruelty free, vegan, or both.

What’s the difference between vegan and cruelty-free?

A company may be cruelty-free, thought that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s vegan. Vegan, as you most likely know, means there are absolutely no animal byproducts used in any of the products. Cruelty-free can be a little trickier to define. The Coalition for Consumer Information on Cosmetics’ (CCIC) Leaping Bunny Program administers the Leaping Bunny Logo to companies producing cruelty-free cosmetic, personal care, and household products. Cruelty-free in these terms means they do not test on animals, directly or indirectly, and they are not owned by any parent companies that test on animals. This also means that they won’t sell their product in areas where it is required for cosmetics company to test their products on animals.

How do I know if a product is vegan or cruelty-free?

We’ve assembled a list of products below that can boast about this goodness, but a good key phrase to look for is Leaping Bunny Certified. You’ve most likely seen this symbol of the rabbit leaping through the oval on the back of many products before. Always keep your eyes peeled for that little leaping bunny on your products!

Fun Fact- Earlier this year, the Governor of California Jerry Brown signed a bill that prohibits manufacturers to import or sell any cosmetic product that was developed or made using an animal test, if the test occurs after the law takes effect on Jan. 1, 2020. Hopefully, many states will follow in California’s steps to make our country’s cosmetics industry friendlier.
